Q. How did you get the idea for Callie Baby?

A. I have always loved vintage fabrics and heirloom designs. I started sewing 8 years ago and have not stopped since. The idea to combine the two came slowly as I started sewing handbags and totes initially.

I couldn't pass a fabric store without going in and spending hours in heaven just dreaming of all the things I could do with the fabrics that I loved. You can only make so many purses, so I started making dresses for my nieces. That is how the initial idea started and it has been a slow but natural progression from there to where we are today.

I named the business after my daughter. When Callie was younger everyone called her “Callie Baby”, so it was the perfect name for a children's line.

Q. How long have you been sewing?

A. 8 Years

Q. What all does Callie Baby make?

A. We design and manufacture children’s clothes in sizes from 3 months to 10 yearsSome designs are extended up to age 12, but it depends on the style. Our focus is on updating classic styles for girls and boys.

For the girls we have dresses and sets in cotton and linens. We do little boy rompers and we always have a matching bow tie for the collections.

Most of the collections have a smaller girl piece, an older sister piece and then a coordinating brother item.

Q. How does the process work- who designs the clothes? Manufactures them?

A. I design the clothes and choose the colors and fabrics. Once the design is complete I work with a production company who cuts and sews the garments.

We worked with a fabulous production house out of New Orleans for our first release and are working with them again for collection to be released this summer. It is a female-owned company that employs women who are in need. It is an amazing concept and they are empowering these women by teaching them a skill and giving them a job.

I hope to work with them on as many designs as possible. We will always try to source from local sources or use local labor, if possible.

Q. What sizes are available?

A. 3M, 6M, 12M, 24M, 2T, 47, 6, 8 & 10

Q. Will you be expanding your line this year?

A. Anything that we do at this point is an expansion!! But yes, we hope to have 12 collections this year and then add on to that next year.

Q. When can we look forward to the new designs?

A. We will release a collection each month and I hope to increase that as we grow. We will announce the new styles and sales on our Facebook page so that is the best way to stay current on new releases.

Q. What has been your favorite item so far?

A. The bubble dress that is part of the Garden Party Collection is my favorite currently, but I am so excited about a swim suit that is in the design phase for release this summer. It is vintage with a cabbage rose fabric and I am really excited about how it is coming together!
