Miranda (Mandie) Catherine Miller, 33 from Dilworth, began Got What it Cakes in 2009 when she had a 10 week old and 2 1/2 year old. Last year she opened her Pineville storefront and her business tripled what she was doing at home. Keep reading to learn about Got What it Cakes!
Q. What all do you do?
A.We sell cakes by the slice at our store front in Pineville Tuesday-Friday 10-3 (and some Saturdays), cruffle pops (similar to a cake pop, but taste better), and our special occasion cakes. If you're lucky, we'll sell cookies every now and then.
Q. What types of cakes do you make?

A. We specialize in custom, tiered carved/3D cakes, or wedding cakes. The crazier, the better! Give me a challenge and I'll be excited to do it.
Q. Where have your cakes been featured?
A. Everywhere! Social media has been very good to me. I've been on every local news channel, and in just about every local magazine and newspaper. Nationally, I've been interviewed on Katie Couric's talk show, on VH1, featured in the New York Times, the Wall Street Journal, Redbook magazine, and more, including a commercial for Bank of America!
Q. What makes your cakes unique?
A. Our cakes taste as good as they look. Some bakeries simply make them pretty; others make them taste good, but we do BOTH! We also primarily cover our cakes in buttercream, instead of fondant. Almost every cake in our galleries is buttercream covered, but looks so smooth, people think it's fondant. Because of this, we've been voted the best place to buy a cake in the Best of the Best (BOB) Awards, best bakery for Charlotte Parent, and Best Bakery for Charlotte Smarty Pants!
Q. What are some of your favorite flavors?
A. Coconut and chocolate, Strawberries and Creme, and German Chocolate.
Q. What has been your favorite cake that you've ever made?
A. Impossible to choose! I truly love making my kid's cakes the most because there's no stress because I'm the customer.
Q. Do you take special requests for those with allergies?
A. We can do a gluten free chocolate that tastes awesome! But we can't offer nut free because there are so many nuts in our cakery, and it's just too risky. We just want to watch out for our customers because they're so important to us.
Q. How much is it per slice? Per cake? Cupcake? Cruffles?
A. Prices range as follows:
$50-$65 for our single tier cakes
$200 for our two tier cakes
$350 for our carved cakes
$750 is our delivered wedding cake minimum.
Our cupcakes are $35/dozen.
Our cruffles in store are $2 each, or 3/$5 6/$10 12/$20 etc.
Our custom order cruffles are $2 each, no matter how many are ordered.
Q. What are your company values?
A. I love Charlotte, and it's been my home forever. I'm proud to have a piece of this awesome city that is meaningful, and want people to come visit us! We believe in giving back to the community and our charity work is as important as our work work. We believe in paying it forward.
