6 fun ways to beat the heat in Charlotte

Don’t let the summer heat keep you from enjoying the Queen City! Grab the kids and head out to one of these cool spots.

1. Ice Cream & splash pads

Head to Birkdale or Blakeney shopping centers, grab some ice cream then head to their splash pad to really cool off.

2. $1 movies

Escape to the indoors and go to a $1 movie at 10 am on Tuesday's or Wednesday's at Regal. See movies listings here.

3. Boomerang Bay

Carowind's Boomerang Bay will keep you cool with 2 of their wave pools, lazy river, toddler splash area, tube water slides, and more. Check out their website for details.

4. Day trip to Dan Nichols Park

Take a short trip to Dan Nichols Park in Rowan County (less than 1 hour from Uptown Charlotte) and enjoy one of their splash pads, gem mining, paddle boating, mini golf and tons more. For more information, see their website.

5. Gem Mining & sluicing

Head to Hiddenite Emerald Hollow Mine and enjoy gem mining in their creek or sluicing.
