Yes, It is that time of year we have all been waiting for….back-to-school! Time to get our lives back, and our sanity. If the summer months have left you a bit out of sorts - too many margaritas and too few workouts - you are not alone.

Now that you have packed that book bag and filled out those health forms, take some time for you. Here is a list of exercise options in Charlotte that just might kick your school year into high gear.

In the last several years the exercise options have exploded in the Charlotte area, so there truly is something for everyone. If you still have little ones not ready for school, there are options that offer childcare as well. Additionally, many church pre-schools now offer workout classes that are scheduled around drop off and pick up times. You not only get a great workout, but get to meet other pre-school moms as well. The choices are endless, so don’t be afraid to try something new.

To make things as easy as possible, listed below are the top three studios in each fitness category, so no excuses!

Barre Studios

Classes are designed for those wanting to tone and define using resistance and light weights.

Pure Barre

What to expect: A typical sock foot barre class that follows a choreographed routine.

What to expect: More ballet based than other barre studios

What to expect: Offers more than your typical barre class with barre sport, a more intensive cardio version of barre. They also offer traditional barre and a yoga based barre option.

Spin Studios

Designed for those wanting an intense cardio workout that is a little more easy on the joints than running.

Flywheel

What to expect: A more competitive spin class that feels more like a nightclub than a gym, with loud music and a dark room.

First Wind Cycling and Fitness

What to expect: Uses a “real ryder” bike that offers mobility of the handlebars which engages the core more

What to expect: Opening November 2015. If you are a fan of Soul Cycle than you will love this beat-based cycle class for all levels.

Combination cardio and strength training workouts designed to build strength, agility and endurance.

Crossfit Charlotte

What to expect: Quick super intense competitive cardio/strength workout. It is up to the participate to determine what is or is not safe.

Orange Theory

What to expect: A combination of treadmill, indoor rowing and resistance strength training lasting 60 minutes

A wide array of class offerings. You do not have to be a church member to attend classes.
