Does winter’s cold embrace have you dreaming of a warm Caribbean beach? Then consider the beautiful, award-winning island of Providenciales in Turks & Caicos - the perfect answer to your winter blahs. The island received Trip Advisor’s 2015 Traveler’s Choice Award for the #1 Island in the World! Turks and Caicos is just under three-hours with a direct flight from Charlotte, making it close enough yet far from winter’s chill.
I recently visited the island, with a wonderful stay at the Ocean Club Resort. Read on for details.

There are two resorts: Ocean Club and Ocean Club West. Both are located, approximately one mile apart, on the gorgeous Grace Bay Beach. The original resort, Ocean Club was started in 1988 and finished in 1995. The newer Ocean Club West was completed in 2000 and comes with slightly higher nightly rates. Ocean Club is at the quieter end of Grace Bay, just steps away from a lightly developed beach. At Ocean Club West you’ll find yourself in the busier part of Grace Bay, within walking distance of shops, restaurants, and a grocery store.
Both resorts offer deluxe beachfront accommodations from studios to three-bedroom condominiums. All the beachfront suites are individually owned making the interior furnishings different and unique in each unit. Every condo has central air-conditioning, a private terrace, a flat screen with cable, and complimentary wifi.
Most condos have either a kitchenette or full kitchen, depending on the unit size. Washers and dryers are furnished in most units. If you so desire, daily housekeeping is available. You can expect toiletries to be restocked, beds made, used towels replaced, and floors mopped!
Ready for Families
One top priority of the resorts is to accommodate growing families and in particular the safety of their younger guests. You can request rollaway beds, cribs, railings for twin beds, and even baby monitors, which all come complimentary. Strollers, booster seats, toys, and board games are also available at no charge. Long-term staff members are available for babysitting, but this does come with an additional charge.
Rows of lounge chairs and umbrellas, also free of charge, are lined up, awaiting guests on the beach. You can jump into two pools at Ocean Club or one long meandering one at Ocean Club West. Both resorts have fitness centers and tennis courts. Arrange with the concierge to take advantage of their complimentary tennis equipment or bikes to explore the island. Between the resorts, there are 3 restaurants featuring fresh fish, meat entrees, island cocktails, and much more.
There is a complimentary shuttle between the two resorts that allows you to enjoy the amenities of both resorts. For purchasing groceries, there is a grocery store approximately a seven-minute walk from Ocean Club West. If you were staying at Ocean Club, you would have to take the free shuttle over then walk to the grocery store.
Snorkeling is a popular activity on the islands. Both resorts are located on beaches with clear water and shallow surf. This allows parents to introduce their kids to this fun water sport and helps them gain confidence in using the gear.
