Dorothy Price has been sharing her favorite children’s book titles on MomsCharlotte.com for several years, and now we’d like to congratulate her on publishing her first picture book. Launching on February 8, 2016, Nana’s Favorite Things is a picture book for ages 4-7 that highlights the bond between Sasha, a 7-year-old, basketball-loving granddaughter and her young-at-heart Nana, who has diabetes.

Alongside her grandmother, Sasha has baked sugary snacks for years. So naturally she is surprised and concerned to learn Nana can no longer eat the treats they love. With quick thinking, Sasha comes up with a clever plan to help Nana become more active and healthy. Before long, Sasha and Nana realize they both have some new favorite things. The illustrations by TeMika Grooms, enhance the creativity of the story and will captivate young readers.

Loosely based around Price’s mother, a diabetic, and her own daughter, she says, "Nana’s Favorite Things aims to bring greater diabetic awareness among today’s youth." Although diabetes affects over 29 million people in the U.S., a good diet and exercise plays an important role in treatment. Price adds, "A healthy lifestyle makes diabetics feel good, too!"

A long-time member of the Society of Children’s Book Writers and Illustrators (SCBWI), and the Charlotte SCBWI critique group, Price is mother to two children; a girl and boy, ages 11 and 6. A former English teacher and writer for years, Price is also the founder of the Young Authors Program which provides youth with fun, exciting, and imaginative ways to express their voices through writing.

Mark your calendar to come meet Price and take a peek at Nana’s Favorite Things at Park Road Books where she’ll be doing a reading and signing on February 20, 2016, at 11 a.m.
