When I first saw the email in my inbox touting a kids’ marathon I thought, “No way - my son gets tired riding in the car for 26 miles...how could he run that far?!” Luckily, I read on and learned that the in an effort to fight pediatric obesity and encourage healthy habits in kids, the Novant Health Charlotte Marathon has partnered with Chick-fil-A to create a 7-week running program for kids 11 and under.
Participating kids will run 25.2 miles over the 7 weeks leading up to race day. Then on November 12 they will join the Charlotte Marathon festivities to run their final program mile on race day and finish out with 26.2 total miles.
