Spend Saturday Mornings Watching Cartoons or Making Cartoons?

Digi-Bridge's #STEAMSaturdays series at C3 is the perfect launchpad for students who show a keen interest and aptitude in computer programming. Through a series of five courses, participants are assessed and directed towards a series of challenges to start their computer programming journey. Beginners learn the basic principles of object-oriented programming (OOP) and move at their own pace towards using coding languages like JavaScript and Python. #STEAMSaturdays are facilitated by certified educators who nurture each student's transition, providing space for reflection, support and motivation.

At the beginning of class, participants will complete a self-assessment and a few introductory activities to inform placement. Everyone will be working at their own pace to complete the challenges developed by our team of educational consultants. Our focus this series is on object-oriented programming (OOP). Our beginners will learn very basic principles of OOP, dragging and dropping objects across the screen to tell a digital story and our advanced participants will be writing code in JavaScript. It’s not necessary for your child to attend all courses in the series, though it is encouraged! “I never thought JavaScript could be so cool,” remarked Colin, a 4th grade #STEAMSaturdays participant. Colin’s been attending our classes since they were first made available in early 2015.

"You never know what single experience sparks the light of hope, opportunity, creativity or encouragement in a child. As an educator, my job is to provide as many instances where that can occur as possible," says Torie Leslie, Digi-Bridge STEAM Community Catalyst.

Classes are held from 9 a.m.-10:30 a.m. and the fee is $50/course. Registration for all five courses is $225 (save $25). Course dates: Saturdays, Sept. 24, Oct. 1, 8, 15 & 22. For more information or for questions, please contact torie@digi-bridge.org. To register visit www.digi-bridge.org.
