Time

Time…  Once it has passed, there is no getting it back…

You foolishly believe you have an infinite span of minutes at your disposal, a lengthy future stretched out before you… The certainty of every sunrise yields an expectation of forever as our horizon, allowing ample opportunity to accomplish all things put off until some ill-defined date in the future: calling an old friend merely to say hello; writing an old-fashioned thank-you note for some kindness shown; visiting your mother or grandmother, for no special occasion in particular; losing yourself in a good book under the shade of the sweet gum tree; playing a full game of monopoly with your children, all in one sitting; surprising your husband with a plate of homemade chocolate chip cookies, simply because you can…

One day, you finally open your eyes, only to discover how many precious moments are gone, never to come your way again…

Without fail, regret arrives hot on the heels of awareness, leaving you to grapple with questions…  Your choices… decisions... priorities…  How much of what’s really important in life did you allow to slip away, quietly, quickly, easily, like sand passing through an hourglass?

Can I honestly say I made the most of my time, prior to the end of our old life?  No, though I believe I did the best I could, given my incredible ignorance…

More importantly, am I making the most of the time I have left?  Probably not, but I’m trying…  I’m really trying…  With His help, all things are possible…
