Charlotte charity helps African orphans

By MomsCharlotte.com

Have household items, athletic equipment, bikes or other children's ride-on toys your family isn't using anymore? You can donate them this week to the African Children's Project.

This Huntersville-based charity will sell those donations at a gigantic yard sale Saturday, and then turn the proceeds into beds for orphans in Africa. The African Children's Project, founded in 2006 and spearheaded by several Charlotte-area residents, aims to build a children's home in Embu, Kenya. The goal is to help support Africa's growing number of orphans, so they have a safe place to live - free of abuse and exploitation.

You can make donations until Friday, Aug. 5 - and sale organizers say nothing will be turned away. To arrange for pickup, contact mfreshour@africancihldrensproject.org. You also can check out the Facebook page for more information.
