Library searching for teen volunteers

From the Charlotte-Mecklenburg Library:

Charlotte Mecklenburg Library is excited to begin accepting applications for the 2012 Teen Summer Volunteer Program. This program is designed for Charlotte area teens (ages 13-17, must turn 13 on or before June 12 to be eligible.) and provides them with an opportunity to actively participate in and make meaningful contributions to their community.

Participants will be prepared to gain real world experience by completing an application and being interviewed by a library staff member. This is a highly competitive program and the library is limited in the number of volunteers it can take each summer so applicants need to come prepared for the professional interview. Students will grow with ongoing feedback and an evaluation at the end of the program.

Last year approximately 100 teen volunteers contributed some 3,900 hours at 14 locations.

Interested students can volunteer at any library location in Charlotte, except Main Library. Interested students can submit applications through libraryloft.org from April 1 through April 30. All applicants must be students (public, private or home schooled) and will be asked to attend an orientation prior to volunteering. The program runs from June 12-Aug. 10.
