Sometimes I get carried away and I lose my focus…
Days like today help me snap it right back into place…
If you told me six years ago that one day I would be involved in teen driver safety initiatives, I would have likely dissolved into tears and walked quickly away…
But here I am. Working with Brian and Grace’s old high school, David W. Butler in Matthews, NC as they participate in State Farm’s “Celebrate My Drive” campaign again this year...
The great thing about this initiative is that it promotes safe driving with our most vulnerable group-teens-all in a positive manner; it also encourages them to raise awareness with their friends, family and community as well, potentially earning a grant award for their school in the process of doing so. Last year, Butler won a $25,000 grant…
The whole point behind this effort is to promote smart decisions by teens while driving…without the use of scare tactics.
This theme matches perfectly with what I’ve tried to do for the last five years concerning distracted driving, so you can see why I’m excited about this ‘Celebration’!
You can help support Butler (or any other high school you choose as long as they registered to participate) by visiting the Celebrate My Drive website:
Go to : www.celebratemydrive.com
Click on- ‘Make a Commitment’
Type in your e-mail address, birthday, and affiliation (parent, student, etc.)
You only have to enter the zip code ‘28105’ in the appropriate field to find our school
Select David W. Butler High School
Answer the 2 questions and then click once more to make the commitment
The questions are good reminders for even experienced drivers… We could all benefit from a quick review of safe driving behaviors!
Please help us build momentum by joining the party and inviting others you know to do so too-please help us support Butler! Vote every day between October 15-24, 2014!
We cannot do enough to help educate and keep our young drivers safe!
