What I love

Joy can be found in the smallest of things, if only we take the time to notice them…  What would happen if we spent as much time and energy being satisfied as we do complaining?

A friend wrote a post on his birthday in October (a day he happens to share with my baby Grace) about what he loves.  He inspired me to follow his lead and I’ve accepted his challenge…

Although I’m lagging a week beyond my actual date of birth, here it goes, in no particular order:

I LOVE being born in the South, saying y’all and wearing boots all year long; I love Chick-fil-A and especially their sweet tea, by the glass or the gallon, and having a family who understands why I do…  I love that I’m a Carolina girl, a Gamecock and that I consider both of the Carolinas to be my home…

I love bacon cooked in the microwave, electric blankets, Tervis tumblers and smiley faces; Captain Crunch, peach jam, red plum jelly and people who are always on time.  I love grilling and baking, Greek salads and French fries, crushed ice and pistachios minus the red dye…  I love Mayberry, Andy Griffith and Matlock; I love Laura Ingalls Wilder, Little House on the Prairie and remembering a simpler time…  I love watching the local news, visiting the library, brick and mortar bookstores, and taking naps on rainy afternoons; Yankee candles, cruise control, glitter, direct deposit, gel pens and people who always keep their word…

I love the songs ‘Can’t Touch This’ by MC Hammer and ‘Happy’ by Pharrell; I love the commercial featuring Icky Woods ‘shuffling’ and the one with an older lady playing Candy Crush Saga, old-school style…

I love Darin & Lisha Morton for believing it’s possible to change the world, one person at a time and State Farm Insurance for believing it too…  I love Jerry Mudge and her husband Skip, for taking me under their wing and showing me how reach teens, an incredibly challenging thing to do…  I love Butler High School, the Butler HS DREAM team - past and present, Janet Prevette, Mary Ferreri, Charlotte-Mecklenburg Schools and knowing firsthand how a community can come together to achieve great things; I love Katie’s Kidz, Thompson’s Child & Family Focus, StreetSafe, Hospice & Palliative Care and Friendship Trays for their ongoing efforts to impact lives and make our world a better place.

I love MomsCharlotte for opening the door so I could to tell our story and for allowing me to rediscover how much I love to write…

I love my fellow sisters on this journey through the valley of shadows and sorrow, who understand that which cannot be explained, who continually inspire and encourage me to keep on, keeping on…

I love watching the harvest moon rise, sunsets over the lake, staring at a starlit sky and feeling a warm breeze caress the side of my face…  I love garnet & black, pink in any hue, Fat Baby boots, dirt roads, pickup trucks and pontoon boats; college football and baseball, ponytails, cashmere scarves and monogrammed clothes.  I love my hair doctor Shelley Rightsell Fuller for helping me wash away the gray; the smell of Coppertone sunscreen, peppermint twist lotion, lip gloss, kayaks, paddle boards and wood stoves.  I love the Mitford series by Jan Karon, the Harry Potter collection, Southern Living and country music; lined slippers from LL Bean, Country Living, and collecting seashells…

I love Rainbow flip flops of all colors, fairy tales, sharing and learning new things; I love reading, positive attitudes, Life is Good and vanilla ice cream.  Ditto fishing and cross stitch, crochet and writing, Daily Guideposts devotionals and saying ‘bless you’…

I love Mint Hill & the Queen City, Chapin and Lake Murray and our neighbors two doors down…  I love peach milkshakes, sour skittles, sweet tarts and almond pound cake; daffodil bulbs, bearded iris, magnolias and sugar maples, hydrangeas and daylilies of every kind…

I love my husband and children (including Greg too) more than they could possibly imagine; I love my siblings (including KT) and parents, grandparents, nephews, nieces, in-laws and extended family-I am so grateful for the ties that bind us, one and all…  I love my furry family: Kitty Girl, Folly, Jasper, Lola & Tupper; I love that my children have tender hearts and want to help all creatures, great and small…

I love reading my Bible, the original instruction manual…  I love that one day I’ll see my son again because of the Son; I love Jesus and knowing that no matter what I’ve done or failed to do, he loves me too!  I love having hope, the power of prayer and I love that I’m blessed to have a faith which continues to grow…

Lastly, as my friend (who planted this seed) said so eloquently before me, if you’re still reading this lengthy missive, know that I love you as well!

Wishing you blessings and hope…tg
