West Lake Norman home sales go way up

Builders and others at Westport in Denver are hosting a huge open house, “Westport Alive,” on May 9. If you've been looking for an opportunity to poke around on the west side of the lake, this is it – with barbecue. There'll be tours of new model homes, said Brad Baranowski of Ellebee Realty, who's helping to promote the builders and the community.

For a couple of years now, real estate pros at Lake Norman have predicted that sales on the west side of the lake were poised to benefit from the new, limited-access stretch of N.C. 16. When the market picked up, they said as they looked into their crystal balls, neighborhoods such as Westport, Sailview and Verdict Ridge would surely get a boost from easy access to uptown Charlotte.

Call it a boost with a bang.

Sales in Denver, along the west shore of the lake, were up a whopping 48 percent in March, according to the latest report from Carolina Multiple Listing Services. New listings were up 28 percent from the same month last year. Both those figures are more than double the same measures for Charlotte and the entire MLS.

Credit all those veteran agents for being right – and the folks at Westport for impeccable timing.

Builders and others at Westport are hosting a huge open house, “Westport Alive,” on May 9, and you’re invited. If you’ve been looking for an opportunity to poke around on the west side of the lake, this is it – with barbecue.

There’ll be tours of new model homes, said Brad Baranowski of Elle Bee Realty, who’s helping to promote the builders and the community. There’ll be tours of the clubhouse, a bounce house for kids, a putting contest, a disk jockey and barbecue. And it’s all free, Baranowski said, from 11 a.m. to 5 p.m.

You do need to let organizers know you’re coming. RSVP by May 6 at ellebeerealty.com/westportAlive, or call 704-999-1733.

Four builders now offer new homes in Westport, the venerable golf course community on the lake.

Z.L. Metz is building Craftsman-style homes. The homes are near the Westport Club and the swim and fitness facility. Prices start in the $160,000s.

The Springs at Westport, a low-maintenance community marketed to active adults, is priced from the $280,000s.

Two- and three-bedroom townhouses, some with master suites on the first floor, are next to the clubhouse in The Villas at Westport. Benchmark Communities has single-family homes available in the Heathers at Westport Golf Club, priced in the $300,000s.

Builders plan to add 350 new houses to the 700 existing homes, Baranowski said.

Westport is in Denver, off the older section of N.C. 16 north of N.C. 73. Coming from Charlotte, take Brookshire Freeway/N.C. 16 north, turn right on N.C. 73, then left on old N.C. 16. The community will be on your right. Just look for signs, Baranowski said.

If you visit the area, you’ll learn that large production builders, including Ryan, Shea and Peachtree, also are building in the Denver area. Find our more about their communities on their web sites.
