Recently Arlene Goldstein, the VP of trend merchandising and fashion direction for Belk, hosted an event outlining the 2014 fall fashion trends to better help you find your fabulous. These trends have been split up into three style statements for the season – complex simplicity, his is hers, and rebel, rebel. A fashion event at Belk would be incomplete without the Most Wanted lists for both men and women’s fashions. See below for Arlene’s guidelines to staying fashionable this fall.
Complex simplicity brings in new proportions and an emphasis on architectural details from shoes, to jewelry, to handbags. This category features predominantly black and white tones with textural blocking. Mainstays of this trend are leather accents, statement jewelry, longer hemlines, and graphic patterns. These pieces are easy to wear and ultra modern.
The his is hers style statement is a continuation of women borrowing from menswear. This category is all about pattern mixing with menswear favorites like trousers, vests, and the classic white shirt. Fall in love with texture as the new tweeds, wools, leather, and furs take center stage. Updates of classic patterns can act as neutrals, while the color palette sees an emergence of wine tones and camel. For accessories, the small backpack makes a return.
Everyone looks just a bit cooler while embracing the third style statement, rebel, rebel. Opposites attract with this trend that utilizes unexpected pairings like leather and lace, winter florals and British plaids, and feminine silhouettes with metal details. Look for buckles, zippers, and metal accents on not only separates, but also accessories to round out the look.
