My favorite interview that I’ve done as a writer was with an artist, Jack Saylor. His works haven’t been displayed in museums, but his talent is undeniable and he’s well-known in the community where he lives. While speaking with him and talking about the muse for his paintings, passion flowed from every word he spoke, and I found it inspiring.
Artists have a gift of eliciting emotion from others with their works. Whether it’s performance art or a painting in a gallery, we all react to it in one way or another. Lake Norman has a vibrant and thriving arts scene, as evidenced by our fall arts preview on page 28 and the arts edition calendar on page 26. Not only are the artists at the lake talented, but they’re also accessible. Writer Lauren Blake sat down with three local artists who have found success in selling their pieces online (page 31).
This month also brings a couple of new things to the magazine. We’ve added the Lakeview section (page 16) to give you a sneak peek of the exclusive content offered on our website and social media. This month also markets the first installment in our five-part Small Town Getaway Series by Keia Mastrianni. You’ll find her inside look at Hickory, a small town with a deep history of craftsmanship, on page 36.
I hope that this issue introduces you to some truly inspiring individuals. At the next gallery show or art crawl, talk to some of the artists—their passion is contagious.
