My Breast Friend My Breast Friend, a nonprofit organization founded by Tempi Wilkinson and Farrah Dixon, held its first event at the Peninsula Yacht Club on Sept. 11. To empower women to take control of their health and removing the stigmas associated with mammograms, the My Breast Friend event gave women the opportunity to learn about mammograms and breast cancer prevention in a “girls’ day out” setting complete with food, beer and wine, vendors, and gift bags. Participants also had the opportunity to get a mammogram on-site at the event in as few as 10 minutes in the Novant Health mobile mammogram coach.
D9 Brewing Company Grand Opening D9 Brewing Company in Cornelius celebrated its official grand opening on Sept. 14. The 10 barrel craft microbrewery is named after the 9th Congressional District as a nod to living and working in the Charlotte area, and features a diverse selection of beers.
‘Tawba Walk Art & Music Festival Bella Love welcomed visitors to the ‘Tawba Walk Art & Music Festival on Sept. 11 in downtown Cornelius. The community-inspired street festival featured local food trucks, microbreweries, and products and services from more than 60 local vendors.
Run for Green Now in its ninth year, Run for Green, which historically attracts more than 700 runners, benefits the Davidson Lands Conservancy, a nonprofit organization leading local efforts to preserve ecologically valuable land in the Town of Davidson and surrounding areas. The proceeds from the event help create and maintain programs that protect natural areas, open spaces, and greenways/trails. This year, 848 runners participated and more than $20,000 was raised for the Davidson Lands Conservancy. MSC Industrial Supply Co. sponsored the “Run for Green” half marathon, which saw 370 runners this year, the best turnout for the event to date. In addition to their sponsorship, MSC also paid the registration fees for 65 MSC Davidson associates and their family members to run in the race.
