My wife and I were driving home one afternoon in September. The car’s right front tire blew out at E. John Street and Morningwood in Matthews. I was physically and technically unable to change a full-size tire. I was preparing to call the road service.
Two gentlemen passed by – one in a gray sweatshirt and one in a dark pink one. Without me even asking, they offered to help. Together they put the spare tire on the car. We gladly offered them dinner money as a token of our appreciation. They declined and we got home safely.
These two gentlemen embody our American spirit: Always help, but accept no recognition. They are our angels. Shih-chung Chen, Ph.D., Matthews
