Twenty-five thousand pairs of shoes. Let that number soak in for a sec. The sheer volume makes even my jaded, some might say snobbish, shoe-loving heart flutter.
I’ll go ahead and speak on behalf of all the designer bargain lovers in the Carolinas: Welcome to Charlotte, Nordstrom Rack.
The new Pineville store, the latest location of the off-price arm of upscale department store Nordstrom, opened this morning with much fan-fare and a line of hundreds of anxious shoppers lining up for a chance to win a $2,000 shopping spree.
There are not many things that will get me out of bed before daybreak, but a chance to preview a new designer discount store is certainly one of them. I ran into Wilson from Fox News Rising too and tried to help him understand why shoes are so important, and why shoppers are so excited. A busload of shoppers from Spartanburg, SC made the trip for the grand opening!
Nordy’s is known for their killer shoe department and excellent customer service, and both are present in the off-price store as well. A tailor (with 20 years experience Nordy folks tell me) is on-site for alterations.
What you see on the floor today may not be what you see tomorrow, but most is sell-off merchandise directly from Nordstrom department stores. Designer shoes — Burberry, Badgley Mischka, Jimmy Choo and more — are plentiful and discounted. The shoe selection for men and children (bejeweled Lelli Kelly sneakers are $39 instead of $60+) is impressive as well. Womens sizes are stocked from 4-13; men from 7-16.
One of the most exciting thing inside the store is the well-edited, well-stocked women’s plus size department, a segment of retail that has been lacking in Charlotte for some time. The handbag selection was impressive as well. I visited the Marc Jacobs rack more times than I’d care to admit.
There are also discounted beauty products including OPI nail polish and Chi flatirons, and accessories from names such as Givenchy, Michael Kors and YSL.
