A local mother-daughter pair with an artisanal appreciation has teamed up to bring fairly sourced global goods stateside. Charlotteans Claudia and Camila Amortegui recently launched Mila-Amor, a virtual bazaar featuring a curated selection of accessories, clothing, and textiles. The goods, which are made in rural locales in Central and South America, include handpicked items like alpaca throws, woven baby boots, and beaded bracelets. Camila, a native of Colombia with a passion for South American art, was inspired to launch the site after a recent visit home. “I feel like the artisans are... not being paid fairly and they’re not treated fairly,” says Camila. “We want to help them sell their goods to sustain themselves and create a business for themselves.” For details on upcoming pop up shops and to shop online visit
