- It’s become somewhat of a given every year for Myrtle Beach: making the annual list of trashiest Spring Break destinations.

Trashy not in the sense of litter, but for spring breakers looking for a fun time on the cheap, according to Coed.com, which compiles the list.

“Remember, trashy is the embodiment of everything Spring Break stands for: cheap, excessive, loud and turnt,” according to the Coed.com website.

Myrtle Beach landed in the No. 3 spot — up from No. 5 last year. Myrtle Beach has been in the top five since the rankings started four years ago.

This year, Myrtle Beach was outdone in trashiness by Panama City Beach, Fla., in the top spot and No. 2 Las Vegas. Myrtle Beach ranked above a number of Florida destinations including Miami, Tampa, Daytona Beach and Orlando, as well as Virginia Beach, Va., and Lake Havasu, Ariz.

“With the exception of bar closing times, Myrtle Beach has exactly what you’re looking for in a trashy Spring Break,” the review of Myrtle Beach says. “Not only are there tons of beachside condos available for renting, but the booze is cheap, the water is warm, and it’s host to one of the greatest bike weeks in the United State of America.”

The rankings by the website, which says it is the authority in college lifestyle, are based on several criteria: Girls Gone Wild shoots, bike weeks, Hooters restaurants, tattoo parlors, strip clubs and local liquor laws about open containers and closing time. New this year: the cost of a public intoxication ticket.

Tourism promoters usually love it when Myrtle Beach lands on national lists, but this isn’t one they tout.
