Beat goes at Monterey Jazz Festival

Head out to Monterey, Calif., for the longest consecutively running jazz festival in the world – the 51st Annual Monterey Jazz Festival, held the weekend of Sept. 19-21.

With headliners who include both up-and-coming jazz artists as well as some of the legends of jazz, you won't know which of the nine stages to stick to.

Just to whet your musical whistle, some names on the bill include: Herbie Hancock, Wayne Shorter, Cassandra Wilson, Nancy Wilson, Joshua Redman, Christian McBride, Maceo Parker, Kurt Elling, Ledisk … need we go on?

Tip: Sunday is the best day for families. Performers that appeal to children play. Anyone older than 2 must have a ticket, but discounts are available for festival-goers ages 2-18.
