Lake Eden Arts Festival
celebrates world music
The 27th annual Lake Eden Arts Festival will be Friday through Sunday at Camp Rockmont in Black Mountain.
The festival's focus is on world music, from blues to bluegrass, zydeco and soul. The performers include Abigail Washburn and The Sparrow Quartet (featuring Bela Fleck), Robert Earl Keen, Trombone Shorty, Donna The Buffalo, Vieux Farka Toure, Betty LaVette, Leon Redbone, the Legendary J.C.'s, Terrance Simien and the Zydeco Experience, Spiritual Rez and Pistolera.
The festival offers lakeside camping space, cabins, hiking trails and two lakes for boating and swimming. Other activities include arts and crafts, poetry and spoken word, clogging, salsa and swing dancing, African dance and drumming, hip-hop dancing and artist workshops.
Festival foods will be available.
Cost: full weekend pass with camping: $135; $105 for ages 10-17. Day tickets range from $29 to $85.

Wooden Boat Show sails
into Georgetown Saturday
The Harbor Historical Association of Georgetown will hold the 19th annual Wooden Boat Show, 11 a.m.-6 p.m. Saturday, along Front Street in historic downtown Georgetown.
This year's show features activities for the entire family including wooden boat exhibits, a wooden boatbuilding competition, children's model boatbuilding, maritime arts and crafts, and music. Visitors strolling the boardwalk can see 100 classic wooden boats on display in the water. Vessels ranging in size from kayaks to yachts will be exhibited in 10 categories: row, canoe and kayak, surfboard, sail, inboard power, outboard power, classic sail (built prior to 1960), classic power (built prior to 1960), owner designed and built, and century class (100 years or older). At noon, the National BoatBuilding Challenge will begin on Broad Street. Two-man teams will race to build a rowing skiff within four hours. At 5 p.m., competitors will test the seaworthiness of their completed skiffs in a rowing relay across the Sampit River. Details: 877-285-3888; www.woodenboatshow.com.
