Charleston - one of America's hottest culinary destinations - is hosting a weeklong celebration of its signature cuisine at special prices. The Greater Charleston Restaurant Association will host the 28th annual Lowcountry Oyster Festival, 10:30 a.m.-5 p.m. Jan. 30 on the grounds of Boone Hall Plantation, in Mount Pleasant, S.C.

The festival is billed as "the world's largest oyster festival." Highlights include oyster-shucking and oyster-eating contests, domestic and imported beers, live music, a Kids Corner (with pony rides and jump castles) and a food court showcasing local restaurants.
Tickets are $12 in advance and $15 on Jan. 30; younger than 10 admitted free. No pets, no coolers and no tailgating. Guests are encouraged to carpool to Boone Hall Plantation.
