JUNE 22 Charlotte

Area group’s focuses: Pilgrimage in Spain

The El Camino de Santiago de Compostela is a 500-mile pilgrimage across Spain that has been walked for 1,000 years. More than 100,000 pilgrims do this every year, throughout the year, to visit the Cathedral of Santiago de Compostela, which many believe holds the remains of St. James the Greater. In the Charlotte area, those who have walked the route (“camino” means “road” in Spanish), plan to, or are curious about it, have created an informal group that meets monthly to discuss the challenges and excitement of the pilgrimage. Meetings are roughly two hours and are held at the REI store at Northlake Mall. The group is coordinated by Bob Barret of Charlotte, who plans to go on pilgrimage again in late August. The next meeting is 10 a.m. June 22 (a Saturday). Details: bob@docbb.com.
