BEECH MOUNTAIN Aug. 31
Take to the skies at kite event
The 12th annual Mile High Kite Festival takes place Aug. 31, in the town meadow of Beech Mountain, which is more than 5,000 feet above sea level. Prizes will be awarded for the biggest kite, smallest kite and best decorated kite. Kites will also be for sale; the first 300 kids (12 and younger) will receive free ones. The event includes kite-flying music, races (kids pulling parachute kites), face painting, and craft and food vendors.
The night before (Saturday), an all-ages street dance will be held from 7 to 9 p.m. in front of town hall. The parking lot will be covered with sand and a DJ will spin tunes. Details: www.beechmtn.com. John Bordsen
