Falfurrias Capital Capital Partners , a Charlotte-based private equity firm, on Wednesday said it hired a former Red Ventures executive to lead one of the companies in its investment portfolio.

John Comly will serve as CEO of Orlando, Fla.-based American Safety Council, which provides regulatory-focused online training and education programs. He succeeds Jeff Pairan, who becomes non-executive chairman of ASC.

Falfurrias Capital, founded by former Bank of America CEO Hugh McColl Jr. and former Bank of America chief financial officer Marc Oken, acquired ASC in 2014. It has plans to build the company through future acquisitions.

According to his LinkedIn profile, Comly joined Red Ventures, the fast-growing Fort Mill, S.C.-based digital marketing and technology company, in 2011. Most recently, he was president of the company’s insurance business. Prior to Red Ventures, he spent 10 years in private equity and investment banking.

“John has the combination of operating experience and leadership skills that will help ASC build on its strong position in the regulatory-driven online training and education market,” Oken said in a statement.

Falfurrias has investments in a variety of industries, including Texas-based Marquis Software Solutions, which is now led by former Bank of America executive Susan Faulkner. One of the firm’s best-known and most lucrative deals was an investment in fast-food chain Bojangles’, which it sold in 2011.
