A prominent Charlotte dentist said Thursday that two of his offices will remain open while he works through bankruptcy to reorganize his practice.

Spurgeon Webber III’s practice, Webber Dentistry, filed a petition for Chapter 11 bankruptcy in federal court Wednesday, records show. Webber’s SouthPark office on Fairview Road was seized this month by the Mecklenburg County Office of the Tax Collector because of $65,403 worth of unpaid taxes. The University City and East Boulevard offices of Webber Dentistry have remained open.

According to the bankruptcy filing, Webber Dentistry has between $1 million and $10 million worth of assets, and $1 million to $10 million worth of liabilities. The biggest creditor listed is the Internal Revenue Service, which is owed more than $1 million, according to the filing.

Other creditors listed include Wells Fargo’s business banking unit, owed $482,559, and the Charlotte Hornets, owed $75,969.

In an email to the Observer, Webber wrote that the bankruptcy filing will allow him to reorganize.

“This means that the practice will be able to continue normal business operations as we restructure,” he wrote.

After the SouthPark office’s seizure, Webber’s patients were redirected to his East Boulevard office. Webber has said it’s been difficult providing care because he was locked out of his office and kept from his medical records and equipment.
