Charlotte employees of health care and technology giant McKesson are getting a new corporate parent.

Chicago-based Allscripts is buying the Enterprise Information Solutions (EIS) business unit McKesson for $185 million, the companies announced last week. San Francisco-based McKesson employs about 200 people in its EIS unit in Charlotte’s University City area.

There are no plans for any layoffs in Charlotte at this point, according to Steve Kilguss, the Charlotte-based vice president of marketing and sales support at EIS. Another source familiar with the deal said Allscripts plans to keep the local office.

Allscripts, a health-care information technology firm, said it plans to close the deal sometime in the fourth quarter.

Allscripts said it will continue growing the Paragon product line, which is part of EIS and deals with electronic health records. It is developed and supported by staff in Charlotte.

Paragon is used by a large number of community hospitals around the country, Allscripts said.

Last fall, McKesson laid off about 60 workers in Charlotte as part of an expense-cutting in its EIS business. Affected workers were in sales, customer service and information technology in multiple offices.

McKesson has its offices at 10735 David Taylor Dr., in the University City area.
