Construction is underway on a new building by Charlotte-based developer Asana Partners in NoDa, which is expected to bring more shops and restaurants to the area.
Managing partner Sam Judd said the company, which is developing and managing new retail in uptown and South End, is still working with potential tenants and can’t share any more specifics yet. But he said construction on the building, which officially started Friday, should be complete later this year.
Asana Partners paid just over $1.9 million for the 0.9-acre site at 36th Street and the Blue Line light rail extension, in a deal that closed last week. Crescent Communities originally developed the site as part of its new Novel NoDa apartment community, which opened last year. The 344-unit apartment building will also include a smaller amount of ground-floor retail.
At Novel NoDa, studio apartments start at $1,268 per month, one-bedroom apartments start at about $1,500 and two-bedroom apartments start at about $1,900.
The light rail extension from uptown to University City is expected to start service March 16, with a stop adjacent to Novel NoDa.
