Gas prices in the Charlotte region continued their downward slump, falling about 3 cents over the last week.
The local trend reflects the picture nationally, where the average price of a gallon of unleaded gas dropped 1 cent over the week thanks to ample supplies of oil nationally and globally, according to a report this week from auto group AAA.
The national average is expected to soon fall below the $2 a gallon mark for the first time since 2009, says AAA, which surveys 120,000 U.S. stations to determine average prices.
South Carolina is the state with the second-cheapest gas in the U.S., right behind Missouri.
Below are the current average gas prices in the Charlotte region, which includes Gastonia and Rock Hill, and beyond as of early Tuesday.
