Food Truck Friday has a new home starting next spring: Sycamore Brewing in South End.
It’s the second planned move for the popular Food Truck Friday gathering. Gaines Brown, the organizer, had originally planned to relocate the event to a Mecklenburg County-owned park at Kingston Ave. and Tryon Street. That lot is closer to the current Food Truck Friday lot, but Brown said Sycamore Brewing is an attractive site.
“Originally, the plan was to relocate to Wilmore Centennial Park, but when the opportunity to partner with Sycamore Brewing was presented, we felt that it was a perfect fit,” Brown said, in a statement Friday.
The current Food Truck Friday site at Tryon Street and Camden Road is being redeveloped into an office building for Dimensional Fund Advisors. The site is also home to Common Market South End and several other local events.

The weekly food truck gathering, started in 2011, has grown to draw thousands of weekly diners.
“Sycamore Brewing offers the perfect venue,” said Dave Trauner, one of the event’s managers. “There’s parking for trucks and for our guests, plenty of tables, areas for picnicking, award-winning locally crafted beer, and it’s family- and dog-friendly.”
In addition to the Sycamore Brewing event, there will also be a second weekly Food Truck Friday held at the Light Factory, an art center on Central Avenue and Nandina Street in Plaza Midwood.
Both new Food Truck Friday events are tentatively scheduled to kick off April 1.
