To get an idea of what MPV Properties, LLC does, just look for their signs – and red dirt – around town.
The Charlotte-based development, construction and management firm has developed more than 3.5 million square feet of office, industrial and commercial property over the last 25 years, according to its website. Projects include retail centers, from Birkdale Village in Huntersville, to Rea Village in south Mecklenburg. Work underway includes nine Charlotte-area projects, in Steele Creek, Highland Creek, Ballantyne and elsewhere.
It’s a busy workplace that also finds ways to be social, according to administrative manager Kim Young. Among the favorite activities: monthly happy hours at area restaurants, and an annual rib-off cooking contest with grills set up behind their East Morehead Street offices, on a date that coincides with a Carolina Panthers home game.
We’re “trying to have a workplace that’s productive, but also fun,” says Young. “Give people opportunities to interact and spend time together.”

That atmosphere helped the firm earn a place on the Charlotte Observer’s Top Workplaces list. Nominate your company to be a part of the 2016 program. Any organization with 35 or more employees in the Charlotte metro area is eligible to participate. Nominations can come from public, private, nonprofit or government workplaces.
The Observer will feature the region’s best employers in our special report, which will publish Sept. 25.
Workplaces must be located in this eight-county region: Cabarrus, Gaston, Iredell, Lincoln, Mecklenburg and Union in North Carolina, and Lancaster and York in South Carolina.
To conduct the survey, we’re teaming with WorkplaceDynamics, a research firm that conducts surveys for more than 40 newspapers, and surveyed nearly 2.5 million employees at more than 6,000 organizations last year.
WorkplaceDynamics will contact nominated businesses and ask to reach out to employees with a short, 22-question survey. Companies will be surveyed through May.
The nomination deadline for our 2016 report is May 20.
You can nominate your workplace at http://www.charlotteobserver.com/nominate or by calling 704-954-8760.
