Pat Rodgers to head chamber in 2011

Pat Rodgers, CEO of Charlotte's Rodgers Builders, is on tap to lead the region's largest business organization.

Pat Riley, the Charlotte Chamber's current chair, said Thursday that Rodgers will take the top post in 2011. The announcement came during the first of two days of the group's annual planning session, held at the Biltmore Estate in Asheville.

She will be the fourth woman to lead the group.

Rodgers' other current civic appointments include chairing the Charlotte Symphony Board of Directors and serving on the board of the Foundation for the Carolinas and Davidson College's Board of Trustees.

Rodgers Builders, started in 1963, is one of the region's largest commercial builders and recently ranked 146 among the nation's 400 largest contractors. Current Charlotte projects include the Knight Performing Arts Theater and Bechtler Art Museum.

The chamber typically selects leaders for several years in advance.

This week's meeting starts the hand-off from Riley, president of Allen Tate Co., to Tim Belk, head of the Belk department store chain. Belk is next year's chairman. He will be followed by David Darnell, president of Bank of America's commercial bank.
