Automotive supplier GKN Driveline will break ground Friday on an expanded Catawba County facility and is accepting applications for jobs connected to the expansion, officials said on Thursday.
The automotive supplier, which announced the expansion of its Maiden facility in April, invested more than $100 million in the project and expects to add more than 200 new jobs by the end of 2018.
Company officials said a majority of the 228 jobs discussed in April will be filled within the next 24 months. The company is looking to hire machine operators, assemblers and manufacturing engineers, among others, officials said. The average salary for the new jobs will be $39,986 a year, including benefits.
GKN supplies automakers such as BMW, Chrysler, General Motors and Ford with drivetrain components and systems, including all-wheel-drive systems and electric drive transmissions. The Catawba County facility currently employs more than 700 people and an additional 1,500 at companies across the state. Applicants interested in positions at the Maiden facility should apply at www.gkn.com.
