Three familiar names from North Carolina landed on Forbes magazine’s annual list of the 400 richest Americans.
James Goodnight, chief executive of Cary-based software maker SAS Institute, topped the rankings released Monday at No. 63, with a net worth of $7.5 billion. He was followed by SAS co-founder John Sall at No. 145 ($3.7 billion) and Charlotte businessman C.D. “Dick” Spangler at No. 278 ($2.3 billion).
From South Carolina, Charleston’s Anita Zucker, CEO of the InterTech Group, was No. 271 in the rankings, with a net worth of $2.4 billion.
Microsoft founder Bill Gates held the No. 1 spot with a net worth of $81.2 billion.
