Duke Energy will issue a request for proposals for a study of beneficial uses of coal ash and promising technologies.
The request will be issued Dec. 12 and be aimed at academic institutions, research groups, industry specialists and others with ash expertise.
“We are eager to expand the amount of ash directed to the beneficial reuse market,” John Elnitsky, who leads Duke’s ash management strategy, said in a statement. “A full assessment of the available technologies and innovations will help us integrate solutions that are safe, practical and proven for large-scale applications.”
The request will seek proposals for a study focused on three areas: market analysis of ash as an ingredient in concrete; new technologies to make ash more suitable for reuse; and other innovative recycling technologies.
