Ride-hailing app Uber said Tuesday that it plans to roll out a service in Charlotte that will let riders schedule a pickup in advance.
That’s a boon for people who know they have an upcoming trip, such as to the airport. Currently, riders must wait until they’re ready to go in order to hail a ride using Uber’s cell phone app. That can be problematic if, say, you need to go to the airport early for a morning flight and there are few Uber cars on the road.
“We’ve also heard from our riders that sometimes they want to arrange a pickup in advance so they can rest assured that an Uber will be available when they need it, even if it’s for a 4 a.m. ride to the airport,” the company said in a statement. Uber said it’s the most common request they get from customers.
With the “scheduled rides” feature, Uber users can schedule a ride from between 15 minutes to 30 days before the trip.
The feature rolls out to users with business accounts in Charlotte, Raleigh, Durham, Greensboro and Wilmington starting Wednesday, Uber said. The feature will be made available to all users over the coming weeks.
