Atlanta-based SunTrust Banks is temporarily without a president overseeing the Charlotte region, following the departure of Bill Peele from the company, the lender said.
SunTrust spokeswoman Sue Mallino confirmed for me Thursday that Peele is no longer with the bank. She said Peele “has left the company,” but she declined to provide more details about the circumstances.
SunTrust plans to eventually fill Peele’s position, she said.
Peele had worked for SunTrust for more than two decades, according to his company bio. He was named to his most recent position in May 2011. In that role, he oversaw the company’s banking operations in Charlotte, Western North Carolina and South Carolina.

Prior to that, Peele was manager for the company’s commercial operations for the Atlanta region for four years and manager of the company’s retail operations in Tampa, Fla., for eight years.
Last year, SunTrust lost market share in the Charlotte metropolitan area, slipping from fifth place to sixth as it was overtaken by First Citizens Bank & Trust Co.
First Citizens’ deposits rose as SunTrust’s declined.
