Wells Fargo on Thursday named a new head of commercial banking for a region that runs from Charlotte to western North Carolina.

Cavan Harris fills a position previously held by Suzanne Morrison, who in August was promoted to head commercial banking for the Carolinas.

Harris is being promoted from his previous position as commercial banking relationship manager group leader for Wells Fargo’s Charlotte metropolitan area commercial banking team.

The commercial banking operation offers products and services to middle-market companies – those with annual revenues of $20 million or more.

Harris, who is now a regional vice president, is one of two Wells Fargo commercial banking leaders whose territories include Charlotte.

Tara Coffey, who is also based in Charlotte, heads commercial banking strictly for the Charlotte metropolitan area. Harris’ region spans west into areas that include Asheville and Hickory.

Harris’ and Morrison’s appointments follow the retirement of Stan Gibson, who left the company in September. Morrison, who is based in Charlotte, replaced Gibson, who was based in Charleston, S.C.

All three worked for Wachovia, the Charlotte bank that Wells Fargo acquired in 2008.

Harris had served in his most recent role since 2010. He started his banking career in 1997 with Wachovia in Gastonia, working in corporate banking.
