New apartments planned in Ballantyne

By Ely Portillo

Almost 400 new apartments are in the works on Lancaster Highway in Ballantyne, according to documents filed recently online.

The plans call for 397 apartments on vacant land along Lancaster Highway, just north of the state line (map below). The 39-acre site is owned by YFP Timber, and it’s adjacent to a new Elevation Church campus.

According to the plans, filed in the Accela system, Georgia-based developer The Flournoy Companies is behind the project. Flournoy has similar-sized projects in Asheville and Wilmington.

I called the project contact listed in the online records, but haven’t heard back yet for more details.

In case you have not been outside in a year, you can see my story about Charlotte’s apartment boom here, along with a map of all the construction proposed and underway. This latest complex would be adding on to the more than 10,000 units we have proposed (in addition to the 10,000 we have underway).
