Charlotte’s skyline is about to get another addition, as Greystar plans to start its newest apartment tower at Third and Poplar streets uptown. And now there’s a rendering of approximately what the 32-story building will look like.
The Ascent tower is planned to have more than 300 units and about 3,200 square feet of retail at its base facing Romare Bearden Park, likely a restaurant. According to Resilience Studio, construction will begin in “late winter 2015.” Greystar hasn’t set an official groundbreaking date yet.
The rendering was posted online by Resilience Studio, which has been hired by R2L Architects to design the “habitable roof and green elements” of the building (hat tip to the folks at Urban Planet for digging up the rendering).
A Greystar executive said the rendering is an accurate depiction of the building’s design, but some of the colors will be different when it’s actually built.

Greystar isn’t the only company planning a new uptown tower. Childress Klein plans to start construction on a 392-unit high-rise tower above the Mint Museum this year, while Grubb Properties and Novare are planning a second SkyHouse tower on North Tryon Street.
