It’s not just new apartments, offices and retail that are popping up all over SouthPark: Construction is proceeding on a pair of new hotels as well.

A dual-branded Hilton Garden Inn and Homewood Suites is being built on Sharon Road, just south of Fairview Road, adjacent to the Sharon Corners Shopping Center. The hotel is a joint venture of Charlotte-based developers Allen Tate, Jr. and John Crosland, Jr., and replaces the 40-unit Olde Town Apartments development, which dated to the 1960s. They’re joining Nashville-based Chartwell Hospitality, a hotel development and management specialty company.

A spokeswoman said the project is likely to be complete in late 2016. City paperwork shows permits for grading the site filed this week, as construction kicks into gear on the 3.7-acre site.

The Hilton Garden Inn will have 150 rooms, while the Homewood Suites will have 120, for a total of 270 rooms.
