Levine Properties names real estate veteran to COO post

Charlotte-based Levine Properties has named Steve Smith, an industry veteran who has been involved with major Charlotte developments, to the newly created position of chief operating officer.

“Steve is exactly the kind of operational leader we need as we move our expanding portfolio of multi-family, office, hotel and mixed-use projects forward,” said Daniel Levine, Levine Properties’ president, in a statement. “His three decades of development experience and relationships will add immediate value to our growing company.”

Levine Properties is developing First Ward Park, expected to open this year, and plans to build an apartment complex and two hotels on the uptown site, as well as renovating the former Dixie’s Tavern historic building.

“The opportunity to craft a vision and redevelop a substantial portion of uptown Charlotte makes the First Ward Project a development executive’s dream,” Smith said in a statement. “Working in the center city, along with other mixed-use projects throughout Charlotte, makes this an exciting time for me to join Levine Properties.”

Smith most recently worked as a development executive at Pappas Properties, a major mixed-use developer in Charlotte. He previously worked at Faison on mixed-use, retail and multifamily projects, and at Disney Development Company on retail, dining, entertainment and hotel projects.
