A partially finished hotel that’s been the subject of a legal fight and neighbors’ complaints is now just a pile of rubble, following its recent demolition.
The project at Statesville and W.T. Harris roads near Northlake Mall has been an eyesore since construction stopped when the developer, Raleigh-based MJM Group, and contractors started fighting over workmanship and payments.
MJM bought the land in Sept. 2012 for $1.9 million, real estate records show. The project was supposed to be a 118-room Courtyard by Marriott.

MJM Group referred questions about the property to their attorney, Matthew Lee in Raleigh. Lee didn’t return messages seeking more information about the demolition and what’s next.
The demolition permit, issued last month, shows the total cost for taking down the building estimated at $130,000. D.H. Griffin Wrecking Company carried out the demolition.
