South End, uptown and other booming apartment markets have gotten a lot of attention lately, but there’s a new complex on Monroe Road that’s speeding towards completion: The M Station apartments at Meridian Place.
Started last year by Charlotte developer Roy Goode, Meridian Place is located at the site of the former Silver Oak apartment complex.
M Station, the apartment complex, is now pre-leasing, with the first residents expected in mid-September. Construction is expected to be complete in March. M Station consists of a half-dozen buildings with surface parking, and will include amenities such as a dog park, swimming pool, grill area and fitness center.
Goode told me that the apartments, which feature high-end amenities like granite countertops and steel appliances, will be comparable to new complexes opening up in SouthPark and uptown. But with rents ranging from $950 to $1,650 for one- and two-bedroom units, the complex will be less expensive than those areas.

In addition to the apartments, Goode is also planning to build commercial and office space at the site. A 10,000-square-foot commercial building geared to attracting local shops is planned to start soon near the corner of Monroe Road and Conference Drive. And Goode said the development is still working to lure a grocer. Construction is also planned to start soon on a three-story, 30,000-square-foot office building.
