East Morehead Street is seeing even more changes as a redevelopment boom continues: Beacon Partners is starting demolition on an office building at 500 East Morehead Street, next to the Dowd YMCA.

The Charlotte-based company plans to build a new, seven-story, 180,000-square-foot office tower on the site. Beacon is planning to finish the building in the fourth quarter of 2016. The property now has a construction camera up, so click here if you want to watch the building demolition.

The new building will include about 15,000 square feet of retail, as well as a rooftop deck, attached parking deck and a fitness center.

Beacon Partners bought the property in 2012 for $5.25 million.

Here’s a quick rundown of some of the other changes underway on this small stretch of East Morehead Street:

▪ Hundreds of new apartments: Crescent Dilworth, Quarters at Morhead and Solis Dilworth are both under construction. And Forestar might start a fourth apartment project soon, at Kenilworth and East Morehead.

▪ The Duke Endowment recently opened its new headquarters on East Morehead.

▪ The Dowd YMCA is planning a $20 million renovation that will expand the building and sharply alter its look.
