Wednesday real estate events: Waverly groundbreaking, LPL Financial topping out

Here’s one way to tell we’re in a boom right now: Two major developments are holding milestone events at almost the same time Wednesday.

▪ First, Waverly: The 90-acre, mixed-use development on Providence Road just south of I-485 is holding a groundbreaking ceremony at 10 a.m. Although infrastructure work started on the site last year, this is the first formal groundbreaking ceremony at Waverly. Childress Klein and Crosland Southeast are behind the project.

The development will include up to 250,000 square feet of retail space anchored by Whole Foods, a medical office by Novant Health, two office towers up to six stories tall, 15 acres worth of single-family housing and 375 Solis-brand upscale apartments.

And it’s not the only development nearby: Crescent Communities is planning a 72-acre mixed-use development on adjacent land, and Lincoln Harris plans to redevelop the defunct Charlotte Golf Links across the street into a new, 194-acre mix of houses, apartments, schools, office and retail.

▪ Second, LPL Financial: At Fort Mill’s Kingsley development, just off I-77, LPL Financial is working on its new corporate campus. The company is holding a “topping out” ceremony Wednesday at 9:30 a.m. to mark completion of the building’s steel frame. When finished, LPL Financial’s campus will total 450,000 square feet of office space in two buildings.

The company decided to relocate from Charlotte and consolidate 1,200 employees at the new location. Lash Group, a healthcare company, is also relocating from Charlotte and building a new corporate campus at Kingsley.
