A Charlotte catering company is building a new headquarters and commercial kitchen off West Morehead Street in the fast-growing FreeMoreWest area.
Andrew Matroni founded Queen City Catering in 2010. The company is moving from its current location on East Boulevard, which Matroni said it has outgrown.
“It will provide quite a bit of space for us,” he said, with a large commercial kitchen, tasting rooms, lunch items for sale and office space for the company. “This is really our dream coming true.”
The building is a former defunct warehouse that used to house a neon sign business, Matroni said. General contractor Caromark is doing the project, which also included building a second floor inside what had previously been a large, single-floor shell.

The new location is on Calvert Street just west of uptown, with skyline views. Matroni said he was attracted to the area’s energy. FreeMoreWest, as the area around Freedom Drive and West Morehead has been branded, is seeing growth of new offices, apartments and stores such as Rhino Market.
“I wanted to know there were things happening,” he said. “It keeps me motivated.”
