A developer is planning to build a condominium and duplex development in South End, on Atherton Street near popular barbecue restaurant Mac’s Speed Shop.
The rezoning plan filed by Rockwell Capital covers a 2.7-acre site at Atherton Street and Euclid Avenue. The proposal calls for 51 for-sale multifamily units in a building with a parking deck, and 16 for-sale duplexes along Marshall Place.
Rockwell Capital partner Julie Lowe said she is partnering with TMP Properties on the development, which they have been planning for about nine months.

The site is currently occupied by an auto store, a commercial building and single-family houses. Nearby South Boulevard is, of course, in the midst of a major boom, with thousands of apartments, new mixed-use developments and retail springing up. With developments such as this one and other townhouse projects nearby, developers are putting more for-sale product on the market, which could balance some of the surge in rentals.
The plan is up for a rezoning hearing before Charlotte City Council in February.
